New WTO-World Bank reports hail progress in advancing Africa’s digital trade

The WTO Secretariat and World Bank have successfully completed the pilot phase of their joint project “Digital Trade for Africa” with the publication of digital trade assessments for six African countries — Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Rwanda. At an information session on 25 September, the two organizations briefed WTO members on key findings of the assessments and practical tools for broader application of these assessments. US citizen released by Afghanistan’s Taliban after visit by envoy

Afghanistan’s Taliban government released an American citizen from detention on Sunday, a week after freeing an elderly British couple. In a statement the country’s foreign ministry identified the detainee as Amir Amiri and said he had been handed over to Adam Boehler, Washington’s special envoy on hostages. WTO members prepare to advance e-commerce discussions as MC14 approaches

At a meeting on the Work Programme on E-Commerce on 25 September, WTO members expressed readiness to intensify discussions on e-commerce to achieve outcomes at the upcoming 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14). Members are preparing to consider proposals on a draft ministerial decision on the work programme and the moratorium on the imposition of customs duties on electronic transmissions. Hong Kong’s Pink Dot to hold online concert after bid to hire Art Park declined

The latest edition of Hong Kong’s largest annual LGBTQ carnival will be held online after organisers were unable to secure a venue at the West Kowloon Cultural District.
