While she obtained residency status under a special government measure, she was not eligible to enrol in the national health insurance system.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In January 2022, after developing motor impairment, she was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a suspected brain tumour.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Foreign nationals without health insurance in Japan are treated as private patients, with hospitals setting fees at their discretion.
